Peter Lehmann’s personal bravery, loyalty and commitment to the Barossa forged the foundations of the winery that bears his name, built in 1979 to protect the livelihood of his mates, the independent Barossa grape growers, and their treasured vineyards. His passion for, and commitment to, the Barossa is infectious and continues with everyone today that is associated with Peter Lehmann Wines, now under the guidance of son Doug Lehmann.
A conviction that the Barossa is the best place in Australia to make wine, and having enough self belief to constantly explore and push the boundaries of wine excellence has yielded some impressive results over the years, perhaps none more spectacularly than in both 2003 and 2006 when they accepted the awards for Best Australian Producer and International Winemaker of the Year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.
Their commitment to the Barossa and the growers has been rewarded and the winemakers enjoy access to a legacy of over 900 vineyards that has no peer in the Barossa winemaking community. The growers, their vineyards and a commitment to excellence in Barossa winemaking have been the backbone of Peter Lehmann Wines since 1979.
Peter Lehmann’s Garden Series is a boutique collection of small parcels, single vineyards or extraordinary efforts by any of the growers in any given year, sometimes the sheer quality of fruit which comes into the winery is so good that it would be sacrilege not to keep the parcel separate and bottle on the strength of it’s own unique merits! Whilst not necessarily available from vintage to vintage and in some cases only available in tiny volumes, this quirky range should generate interest for anyone looking for a rare or unusual wine from this great producer to offer their customers’ something a little different.
