The ever-dynamic Planeta continue to move their inspirational projects forward. 2010 saw the launch of their wine from the slopes of Mount Etna, Carricante, to widespread approval; Jamie Goode described it as “a lovely, taut white wine” on www.wineanorak.com, while Victoria Moore called it “fabulous stuff”. We celebrated the old, too at a fantastic dinner in London with many old vintages of their famous Cru wines, Chardonnay from 2000 in magnum, Syrah from 2002 and other vintage delights.
As ever Francesca, Alessio and Santi Planeta have been busy, and 2011 heralds the release of Dorilli, a Cerasuolo Riserva to capitalise on the huge popularity of their Cerasuolo di Vittoria (Frappatto/Nero d’Avola). Plumbago, their Sambuca-grown Nero d’Avola, was a big hit last year, and the mighty Cometa gained yet another Tre Bicchieri (three glasses) award for them. A new website, an environmental project called Planeta Terra, and of course their beautiful and recently opened resort hotel, La Foresteria, in Menfi; nothing stands still for Planeta!
