Jure and Eva Bonic emigrated to Australia from their native homeland of Croatia in 1960 in search of the ideal environment to make the highest quality organic wine. Jure Bonic explored most of the south-east region of Australia in search of the richest soil and optimal climate to grow his organic grape vines. He found it at Jerilderie, a small outback town about 600 kilometres southwest of Sydney. In 1970 the Bonic family settled on over 340 acres of virgin soil along the slow, meandering banks of Billabong Creek near Jerilderie and commenced commercial production of organic wine. The Bonic family are pioneers in organic farming practices and organic winemaking methods with a long history of biodynamic practices too. The characterful second generation Frank Bonic is now at the helm as winemaker and representative.
